{"id":19,"date":"2020-02-08T03:04:05","date_gmt":"2020-02-08T03:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blissymbolics.ca\/w532\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2026-02-08T23:03:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T03:03:00","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blissymbolics.ca\/w532\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We are Blissymbolics Communication Institute Canada (BCIC), the Canadian arm of Blissymbolics Communication International (BCI), a global network of educators and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) workers that originated in Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Persons around the world who are non-speaking have benefited from the pioneering work of a clinical team in Ontario in the early seventies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For over forty years, we in Canada have worked with persons with cerebral palsy \u2013 helping them improve their communication and literacy skills. Included in this effort was providing leadership to the international application of Bliss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2012, we were pleased to support the transfer of the international role and  responsibilities of Blissymbolics Communication International, to our colleagues in Sweden, the other Nordic countries and Europe.
